The message below is from Fran Boait to all local community groups in Cambridge, including Transition Cambridge.

Dear all,

I am organising a meeting with Julian Huppert MP to discuss our concerns about the energy bill. The meeting will take place in October, before the energy bill comes before parliament in early November. I am currently volunteering for Greenpeace, and Cambridge is one of their key constituencies because it is very green city, with a Lib Dem MP who can influence the government to make the right decisions on the Energy Bill. Having lived in Cambridge for 8 years and been part of the environmental movement, I am keen to gather as many groups together to meet with Julian to discuss the Energy Bill.

The key messages I think we should deliver are:

  • The Lib Dems promised to prioritise renewable energy and support green businesses.
  • George Osbourne seems committed to the UK becoming more dependent on gas to generate electricity.
  • Because we need to build a new generation of power stations, we have an opportunity to significantly grow the renewable energy industry, especially offshore wind.
  • Promoting green growth and green energy would be good for the environment and provide thousands of much needed jobs.

We need Lib Dems like Julian to keep to their green promises and stand up to Osbourne and the gas lobby.

Please email me if you are interested in joining me at the meeting in October (date tbc), I hope to hear from you soon.

Thank you,

Fran Boait
