Hope you've had a good summer! We're back with lots of great events, starting this week with a session on how to manage your home heating to save energy and reduce your bills on Thursday evening. Also coming up there's the Cropshare Harvest party on 15 Sept, the Transition stall at the Food, Garden and Produce Show on 15-16 Sept (enter your own produce to win some prizes!), a newcomers evening on Thursday 20th Sept, and a stall at the Grafton Centre Eco-event on 28-29 Sept. (And if you can help at any of these stalls, get in touch).

For most people space heating is by far the biggest use of energy in the home. Are you heating more of your house than you need? Is it warmer or cooler than you want it? Come and visit the Transition stall at the Food, Garden and Produce show. We'll have Cropshare produce and Cambake bread available (for donations), as well as a display of our projects and some friendly Transitioners to talk to! If you can help out, please contact us. You could take a turn on the stall (with others), donate garden produce or small plants. The show is Cambridge's big early autumn event - you can also enter your own produce in their competitions (Transitioners won several cash prizes last year...). More details here.

Come to CropShare's annual harvest celebration down on the farm! Bring a bottle and something to put on the BBQ, other food and drink will be provided. We'll have a live band, allotment bonfire, and activities: Felt making, Wool spinning, Grind your own rye flour from our home grown grain, Kids straw fun. There are spaces for camping overnight - please get in touch to book. £5 suggested donation. See you there!

Come and find out what the Transition movement is all about, what we get up to in Cambridge, and how you can get more involved! We'll show the first Transition film "In Transition", followed by a short presentation of our current projects, and then there's be time for questions and answers and a chance to meet people. Last year this event was called Live Green and it was great fun. There were stalls from CCF, Recycling, Cambridge Wood works, a live cooking competition and a smoothie cycle. This year the energy group are putting on a stall - this is a 2-day event and we need lots of volunteers so if you could help us out for a few hours please let us know. We are especially short of people on the Friday - we won't not be able to run the stall on both days unless we get some more help!

Creating synergetic productive groups - a workshop with Looby Macnamara, author of People and Permaculture. We will explore group life and how to make the most of the group energy and people's skills. This will include decision-making, facilitation techniques and roles within groups. The workshop will be fun and interactive. Cost £45/ £35 unwaged if booked and paid for by September 25th. After this date the cost will be £55/ £45 unwaged. Cambridge Art Salon has a small plot of land we are keen to turn into a community art garden in the heart of Romsey. We are looking for a volunteer garden co-ordinator and gardeners to turn the land into a veggie patch and green space with art, installation and a possible mural. All ideas welcome!!! Emmanuel United Reformed Church, will host a FREE Environment Expo focussed on sustainability in buildings, particularly saving energy and especially in older buildings such as our beautiful church (for which we have ambitious plans). We invite building professionals, managers and owners of both public and private buildings and home owners to come and discuss these issues with consultants and suppliers for energy saving and renewable energy. Cambridge Wood Works is open every second Saturday of the month from 10am - 1pm for your affordable reclaimed wood needs. We are at Penn Farm Studios on the road between the villages of Harston and Haslingfield. Public transport isn't great, but there are good cycle routes via Grantchester and Cantalupe Farm from the City to Haslingfield. Come with the family and enjoy a celebration of farming, food and wildlife, including food demonstrations and talks, various local food stalls, a bread making competition (open to all), as well as tractor and trailer rides, guided farm walks, sheep dog demos, farm animals and children’s activities. Free entry. This will be followed by a church service in St Peter's Church, Barton at 5.00pm with guest speaker Gerry Hanson (author of England my England). Permaculture is a design system for ecological and sustainable living, integrating plants, animals, buildings, people, and communities. The course will be led by Hannah Thorogood, and will include an introduction to permaculture, observation of natural systems and how they relate to us, using some tools of permaculture design. The course aims to inspire you to be the change you want to see in the world, and is a chance to get to know like-minded people. Cost: £70 (£50 concessions) for the weekend. Cambridgeshire County Council is now consulting on issues for a new transport strategy for Cambridge and South Cambridgeshire. They say: "Growth is being planned and we need to explore how best to accommodate this while improving accessibility and reducing congestion." Their consultation document highlights some of the main issues and challenges for transport in the area and seeks views on what approach we should take in developing a new transport strategy over the coming decades. The closing date for feedback is 28 September 2012. You can also attend various public meetings to find out more. More info here.
