  • Talk by Samina Khan - Thursday Sept 24th

"Finding your heart's purpose amid turbulent times aka How to reconnect with your mojo" Talk by Samina Khan of the Well-Being group (7.30pm, Friends Meeting House, Jesus Lane, Cambridge).

Samina's talk will be a shared individual and collective journey of how each of us can reconnect and rediscover our own internal flame, to give us both warmth and light the way for our future. What is our purpose? How to distinguish between false idols and authentic calling? Why does it sometimes feel so hard to do what we know feels right? Why is the current state of the world a perfect mirror calling out our deepest purpose? These and many more questions will be explored and answered by Samina.

Samina has a passion for igniting everyone's own internal flame - she has been working with both individuals and organisations for 11 years and is a gifted facilitator and coach.

We'll be cooking up all kinds of fun stuff about how to get the most out of food - growing, buying, storing and cooking it, and great ways with leftovers. There'll be a cookery demonstration with Kathryn Broe, then we'll cook and eat lunch together, followed by a talk from Marlene Taylor (from WRAP) about the Love Food Hate Waste campaign. Places are limited so you need to book: Tickets are £10 including lunch (concessions £5). To reserve a place, please email Pippa and she'll send you booking information.

  • Food waste and Christmas: your ideas and recipes please!

The season of entertaining, feasting and generosity can lead to overflowing bins and lots of wasted food... Do you have any hot tips or recipes for reducing your food waste at Christmas? The Food Group are working up some articles for the local press - please email your suggestions and ideas to Jacky Sutton-Adam by October 28th, thank you!

  • Cambridge City Council is signed up to the 10:10 campaign!

Did you know that Cambridge is one of the very few City Councils to have signed up to the 10:10 campaign? This is great news and means that the Council has committed itself to making a 10% reduction in carbon emissions by the end of 2010. It is possible for individuals to sign up to this campaign, so sign up now if you haven't already! ()

  • Solar energy information evening 3 Nov

Sustainable Shelford presents a Solar Energy Information Evening at Great Shelford Free Church Hall on Tuesday 3 November at 7.30pm. An expert from the National Energy Foundation will explain the basics of solar energy. This session should give you all the information you need to go out and shop for a solar system. For more information, contact Chris Hulme.

  • Weekend in Devon for Climate Activists and Professionals

7pm Fri Oct 2nd - 4pm Sun Oct 4th "With new Climate initiatives bursting forth daily in the build up to Copenhagen, this one has a different emphasis: no big name speakers, no fixed agenda. Instead it will be committed people connecting in an extraordinarily beautiful setting. Climate Weekends at Embercombe exist to connect, challenge and nurture the people taking a stand on this issue. There will be facilitated plenary time, smaller group time and invigorating conversation working outside in the fresh air in the organic garden. The cost of the weekend is £150 inclusive of accommodation in cosy yurts with your own wood burning stove, hot showers, homemade organic meals using Embercombe ingredients wherever possible and transfers from and to Exeter St Davids Station." This is from a social enterprise 7 miles from Exeter, on 50 acres overlooking Dartmoor. If you are interested, contact Suzy

  • Exhibition of East Anglia's agrarian community in Norwich

A new exhibition of photographs by Justin Partyka explores an agrarian way of life that is hidden from view behind large-scale commercial farms. The exhibition features people harvesting and working the land using traditional methods, farm houses and farms where time appears to have stood still, and other skilled rural workers such as reed cutters and rabbit catchers. From 29 September to 13 December at the Sainsbury Centre for Visual Arts, University of East Anglia, Nowich. http://www.scva.ac.uk

You can see there is a lot going on and I hope you find something that inspires you.

Warm regards

Bev
