Hi everyone,

The Transition Cambridge movement is fairly quiet at the moment, at least by our usual standards, but with the introduction of a new group on renewable energy, and preparations going on for our lineup of events at the environment festival, there is still plenty going on behind the scenes, and plenty of ways to get involved!

  • The new Renewable Energy Group begins with a buzz!

There's clearly a lot of enthusiasm for renewable energy. Last Thursday, The Cafe Project was quite packed as a bunch of us met to discuss how we can create more clean, safe, low carbon electricity in Cambridge. Many great ideas were put forward, and a second meeting has been arranged for Thursday the 28th at 8pm, also at the Transition Cafe (22a Jesus Lane). You are very welcome to join us!

  • A chance to meet other transitioners, and get involved in the creation and running of Transition stalls

The Environment Festival is fast approaching and we have a positively huge lineup of events planned. This will be a fantastic opportunity to further spread the word and keep Transition Cambridge expanding. In preparation we are giving a makeover to our Transition Cambridge stall, and looking for more folks to help with the running of it at events. At the next Transition Cafe, at 8pm on the 14th, you are invited to come and meet fellow transitioners, have a friendly chat, and find out more about how you could be involved in this. Hope to see you there!

  • Talk by our neighbours, Walden in Transition

Walden in Transition continues its current series of events on Tuesday 5th May with a talk by Dr Joe Smith, Senior Lecturer in Environment with the Open University, entitled "Why Climate Change Changes Everything." The talk will be in Saffron Walden Town Hall at 8.00pm. Tickets £3 (under 18s free) at the door.

Joe Smith's recent research has explored the politics of consumption, and broadcast media's role in shaping public debate about complex issues. He is Co-Director of the Cambridge Media and Environment Programme which runs seminars for senior media decision makers. He led the team of academic consultants on David Attenborough's BBC ONE programmes for the 2006 climate change season, BBC TWO's Coast, and most recently consulted on the world's first televised climate change based drama Burn Up.

In addition, Master Composters will be on hand to answer your home composting queries, plus you can pick up information on how to get a cut-price compost bin for your garden or allotment.

If you can't make it to the event, you can pick up free compost from Donarbon (www.donarbon.com) on the A10 just past Waterbeach during opening hours, and visit www.recyclenow/compost to find out about compost bins.

That's all for now. Hope to see you at some of these events!
