This Saturday, Fulbourn Christmas Market looks like the perfect place to do some "real" Christmas shopping. Also a must for the diary is next Wednesday's Winter Social at the Six Bells - it's likely to be plenty of fun. Next Sunday, if you're out and about why not drop in to Lush at the Grand Arcade as we will be selling Charity Pots in aid of Transition (another gift idea?), and talking about Transition's work. There's another social with Cropshare the following Monday so let's party while the evenings are drawing in! Details below...
19:00, Six Bells pub, 11 Covent Garden (off Mill Road) CB1 2HS
Time for winter cheer, time to celebrate the year! The Transition winter social is a time to get together with old friends and meet new ones. We'll be in the back room, with plenty of space for everyone; come along any time from 7pm. Seasonal snacks to share are very welcome! The Six Bells, our usual venue for the winter social, won Community Pub of the Year in 2014. Check their website for more info.
11:00-17:00, Lush (Lion Yard)
On Sunday 18th December you can buy hand made cosmetics from Lush and support Transition Cambridge at the same time. Lush have invited us to run a 'charity pot' party in their shop. That means they will donate to us all the revenue (minus tax) from selling 'charity pots' of lotion on that day. We will have a small stall as well so that we can chat with customers and hand out leaflets - we have prepared a flyer with tips for a sustainable holiday season. Do drop in and say hello. Last year Lush raised £4.3 million through their charity pot scheme (Charity Pot raises £4.3 million). We are delighted that they have chosen us to take part this year. Thanks!
19:00, Haymakers pub, 54 High Street, Chesterton CB4 1NG
No farm days in December, so Cropshare and friends are getting together in the pub! All welcome. They say 'We'll be the shifty looking types in the corner with the slightly muddy boots.' The Haymakers is a friendly pub which has good food (including vegan pizza) and Milton Brewery beer. More info here
We have an opportunity for an Education for Sustainability co-ordinator. Full time until end 2017. You need to apply by 15th December. More details here.
BOATS ARE HOMES! Campaign update: Since last posting here, we at Camboaters and the NBTA (National Bargee Travellers) have been involved in an ongoing campaign to protect our boat dwellers against the council proposed evictions and price hikes. Many of these boats are practising radically sustainable lifestyles with compost loos, solar power and carbon water filtration systems, and many are also involved with social and environmental community work here in Cambridge. We have been receiving very warm support across the community from many who are concerned at the increasing sanitisation of our urban areas. It would be an enormous help to our cause if you could find the time to fill out the councils consultation form here which has guidance notes attached. [[More details here.->http://help.camboaters.co.uk/]
Thank you so much to everyone who has pledged to support the Cambridge Sustainable Food Hub. Fantastic news: we have already reached our first £10,000 milestone! There's still a long way to go, of course... to find out more about the project and make your pledge please follow the link. More details here.
14:30-17:00, Towmley Hall, The Fulbourn Centre, Home End, Fulbourn
It will be another full market packed with food (artisan bread (CamBake), cakes, mince pies, buns, tarts, and savouries, including some gluten free baked items. Organic fruit and veg, jams, chutneys and honey, and other local produce) and drink (Fulbourn's Moonshine Brewery bottle conditioned ales and Fulbourn apple juice); handmade crafts, fine art, original prints, cards, and affordable jewellery; crafted home, table and fabric gifts; home decorations, lamps, pottery, wood turned articles, toys, and nursery items; handmade natural lotions, deodorants, soaps and cosmetics; and natural health personal use products and supplements. And more….....not forgetting a good selection of Christmas wreaths and seasonal table decorations - some being made on the day. Again this year, there will be free activities for children making Christmas crafts on the stage - and a great cafe with homemade cakes.
13:30-16:00, Trumpington Village Hall
This is a wonderfully successful annual local event. There will be stalls, vendors, a tombola, cakes and tea/ coffee from the WI and most importantly the Seed Swap!! We are looking for volunteers, stall holders and seed swappers. Barbara and Kim, the Seedy Sunday 2017 organisers, look forward to hearing from you.
