Who we are

Faced with uncertain energy prices and climate change, our response is to build a stronger, more versatile community – a community with the capacity to adapt to whatever happens and where we can be happy and healthy.

Transition Cambridge joins the hundreds of Transition towns across the UK, and the thousands of them around the world in an effort to make more resilient and sustainable communities. To see how it all started, have a look at the Transition Primer.

Want to get involved? Read on to find out more. We hold regular events and have a series of working groups looking into food, energy and water.

Friday 22nd March - Saturday 8th Jun: Water usage survey opens

online 10:00
The water group is keen to find out what water saving measures we can promote to help alleviate the problem of water shortage. This last winter has been wet but droughts are becoming frequent. Summer 2019 was particularly bad. Hence a survey: what are we already doing and can we encourage others to do it too? Please fill in the survey - and you can enter a prize draw for £30 shopping vouchers. Tell your friends and family - we all use water, not just in Cambridge.

Thursday 18th April: Energy Group - taking the next step

online 20:00-21:30 add to google calendar
Some of us have now converted to low carbon heating but not all. What can we do to help others along the zero carbon path? Different people are stuck in different ways - think about members of your friends and family: what are their motivation and barriers, what should be their next step and what would trigger them into taking it? What role can TC take in all this? All welcome. Please ask Nicola for the zoom link.

ECCG is a magical meeting place for you and your friends, close to the centre of Cambridge. Enjoy chatting as you garden and relax. We meet as a group on Sunday mornings from 10.30 am to 12.30 or later but people can come individually or in groups whenever they like. We are just completing our 'Heads, Hearts and Hands' hut where we can learn, bond and do things together and have tea and cake too. Come and enjoy the space! More...

Meet the Energy Group

An important part of our response to climate change is to contribute as little as possible to it, and a large part of that is weaning ourselves off fossil fuels. The energy group aims to do whatever we can to save energy and to generate renewable energy to replace fossil fuels .

Over the years we have distilled a lot of online advice about this which you can use and learn from. There tips on things you can do at home, insulation, renewable energy like heat pumps and wood stoves and, since climate change is going to bring us warmer weather, on how to keep cool. Look at our homepage for details of the next meeting or get in touch.

Call-out for volunteers for "What would nature do?" weekend

Sandy and Nicole at Cambridge Carbon Footprint have planning well under way for the "What would nature do?" event on 23 and 24 March on Kings Parade. There'll be Repair Cafes on both Saturday and Sunday (book now if you'd like to bring something to be repaired). The Repair Cafes will be in one of three marquees in front of King's College. Our repairers will also be leading e-waste upcycling activities, and in the other two marquees there'll be hands on art activities, a sustainable living advice hub with Transition Cambridge, a soundscape and more, delivered in partnership with Hilary Cox Condron and Cambridge Curiosity and Imagination. We're keen to find more volunteers to help out over the weekend (particularly Sunday). There are a variety of roles and times: looking after and talking to visitors, helping to decorate the space, looking after volunteer repairers, greeting visitors at the reception, helping with creative activities etc. If you've been on King's Parade recently, you won't have missed the quagmire where our marquees are going to be, but the marquees will be floored and we'll be dry. Volunteers will have access to secure storage space for bags etc. Refreshments and lunch will be provided on Saturday and Sunday. To find out more and/or to volunteer, please contact Nicole Barton at CCF. Full event info here. It will be a great event - so please spread the word and do come along! More...

Make a donation!

As many of you know, we run on a shoe-string budget, and we generally find that we can do a lot with very little money at all. However, there are some basic costs we have to meet each year, and we'd be very grateful for your donations.

We have set up a local giving account, or you can donate via bank transfer or cheque (details here). Donating via Local Giving means that your donation can also have Gift Aid applied. Thank you!
