Area groups Website: |
Here's a quick tour of the Transition Cambridge web-site! You might like to start by finding out what Transition Towns are about - basically they are a response to climate change and peak oil. They aim to build local resilience through practical community projects, such as those being run by our food group and energy group. We also need to look after ourselves through the transition to a low carbon world, and the well-being group aims to support us through this. Eventually we hope to come up with an Energy Descent Action Plan, which will act as a guide to what we need to do and when, in order to create a low carbon Cambridge (here are the EDAPs from Transition Forest Row and Transition Town Totnes as inspiring examples). Here in Cambridge, we put on lots of different events where you can find out more about transition, and you can also join the meetings of the various topic groups if you're interested in working on these areas. There are also opportunities to learn new skills such as permaculture, chutney making, vegetable growing and knitting. You can see a few of our past events here, and here's a summary of the current groups that make up Transition Cambridge. To keep up with everything, you can sign up to receive our weekly bulletin, or take a look at previous bulletins. We also try to list other environment related events in Cambridge, so if you know of something or would like to advertise something, send us an e-mail. And for links to other transition related groups/projects/information, go to our Links page. And if you'd like to meet with others involved with Transition Cambridge, come along to the fortnightly Transition Cafe. You can also discuss issues on-line using our Forums. Most recently, we have started a Transition Resource Centre in our new office at 154 Cherry Hinton Road (map here). There are lots of different ways to get involved and we always need help with lots of things as we are all volunteers and never have enough time to do everything we'd like to! And if you'd like to support us financially, we'd love to hear from you! New groups continue to form, and Transition Cherry Hinton is currently getting started. So if you'd like to set up a new topic or area group, we'll do all we can to help. We are continually evolving, and we welcome everyone's input and ideas. We don't have all the answers, but we trust that if we put our minds together, we can find them! |
